The value of touch

Our aestheticians have mastered the art of touching people in a way that makes them feel comfortable, safe and capable of opening up.

Touch is our first language. Even babies understand the message imparted via a caress, the feeling of skin on skin. Gentle skin contact reduces stress, strengthens the immune system and evokes emotions. Elisabeth Sigmund, co-founder of Dr. Hauschka, recognised how invaluable attentive touch is. She always believed that there are two kinds of beauty: an inner and an outer one.

She created cosmetics that go deeper. Because life can get under your skin. These cosmetics activate the skin’s self-healing powers and strengthen it from the inside out. On the one hand, these effects can be attributed to their valuable ingredients. On the other hand, the way that the creams, oils and lotions are applied also plays a role. To this day, gentle, nourishing hand movements remain an important part of the synergy between beneficial natural cosmetics and attentive care. Your skin will glow almost of its own accord.

An attitude towards life that touches people

Elisabeth Sigmund initially developed her creams and lotions for her customers in her own beauty salon. She took a holistic approach that goes beyond just a care concept. It is an attitude towards life that manifests in the belief that products and their application are closely linked. What makes the method so unique is its rhythm. When immersion and release accompany the rhythmic interplay of rest and movement, warmth and coolness, a strong feeling of safety and relaxation is created. Quite often, this leads to customers falling into a restful sleep during the treatment. One of the most beautiful compliments for the aestheticians.

Speaking of deep relaxation and targeted stimulation, trained Dr. Hauschka aestheticians continue to put into practice the art of touch taught by Elisabeth Sigmund. A treatment in a beauty salon should be like a conversation between subtle vibrations, an interaction between the hands and the body. After all, gentle skin contact and expert hand movements reveal much to experienced hands: where is this person tense? Can they let go? How is their skin reacting? Is it responding well to the treatment?

First a foot bath, then treatments performed by hand

Every facial treatment in our beauty salon begins with a foot bath. This grounds stressed people and, most importantly, brings them closer to themselves. Every treatment that follows is performed by hand. No devices, needles or artificial UV lights are required, nor is any wringing, squeezing or kneading. All that is needed is rhythmic skin contact – sometimes more intense and sometimes lighter – with gentle hands and delicate brushes. The repetition of relaxing movements gives the skin’s processes a boost. Lymphatic fluid starts to flow throughout the entire body, and the skin’s powers of self-cleansing are stimulated.

One particular challenge that arises during this intimate treatment is finding the right balance between proximity and distance. After all, customers lie down on the treatment couch while partially covered only by a cloth, and place themselves in the hands of a stranger. Our aestheticians have mastered the art of touching people in a way that makes them feel comfortable, safe and capable of opening up. In this way, they not only feel the surface skin contact but experience effects that go deeper.

Nothing touches people quite as directly as cosmetics. For us, precious care products and attentive touch are therefore inextricably connected.

Tapping into your inner radiance

A beauty salon is not necessarily needed to experience the deep action offered by Dr. Hauschka cosmetics. Caring treatments are also possible in your own bathroom. One good example is our face wash cream and the unique way it is applied: from the top of the face to the bottom and from the centre outwards using rolling hand motions. Quality ingredients – almond meal and medicinal herb extracts – are gently distributed across the face and cleanse the traces of everyday life from the skin’s surface. At the same time, targeted hand movements stimulate lymph flow and activate the skin’s own powers of self-cleansing.

We are convinced that attentive self-care and skincare that uses beneficial natural cosmetics lead to more than just a beautiful complexion. Good self-care brings the body, spirit and soul into balance and lets your sense of inner harmony shine through. When combined with quality natural cosmetics, gentle, targeted hand movements have a deeper effect, regardless of whether you are in a beauty salon or your own bathroom. Attentive touch not only nourishes the skin – it has a positive effect on the soul. Because beauty isn’t just about how you look; it’s about letting your inner radiance shine through.
